Certified Zone Business Benefits

  • Utility Rate Incentives
  • Special reduced rates on electricity, gas and telephone usage are available to some EZ certified businesses through private utility companies. Businesses must contact their utility companies directly for eligibility and to access benefits.

      Verizon
      Verizon offers a 5% service discount. There is also a credit of up to 4% of the sales and use tax on service bills if the business meets specific growth measurements of the zone.

      Bell Atlantic and Citizen's Communications
      Bell Atlantic and Citizen's Communications voluntarily participate in the Empire Zone program by offering a 5% reduction on intrastate/intralata charges. Businesses must provide a copy of their Zone Certificate of Eligibility to the phone company together with a notarized letter stating that the business plans to increase its zone investment and/or workforce prior to being eligible to receive a rate reduction. Businesses must contact the Billing Department of the local customer service office at the number which appears at the bottom of their bill and specifically request a "Business Economic Development Zone Discount".
